Next week I unveil my eagerly-anticipated (well, by Shami and Izzy, if nobody else) Top 10 Albums of 2015. But this week it is the unfortunate albums that did NOT live up to expectations.. It's not that this is an awful album. I've listened to it lots and there are a few songs I like (mind you, the best song of all - REALiTi - was already released as a better version months earlier). But I was TOTALLY psyched for this album. I counted down the days until it's release and then, when I finally heard it, it was just kind of... meh. By the way, even though this album is on my list you should still listen to it. Many critics name it as one of their FAVOURITE albums 2015. This particular critic, however, says "no way". Last year, Gary Clark's Live album was my #3 album of 2014. But this year's Studio album has one killer cut - Grinder - and a whole bunch of disappointment. Don't try to get clever Gary. Just shred away on that guitar of yours and all will be well! Oh Florence, how I love thee. And how I wanted to love this album. But I just couldn't. Where were the epic, glorious, gorgeous songs we have come to expect from you? This just felt like a big step backwards for you. A good album but not a great Florence and the Machine album. I know that some of you (including one of my wonderful CS students) love this album. But I think that it's time for Ms. Del Rey to mix things up a bit. This is all too similar, too bland, too familiar. Loved her first album. Second album was okay. This one is kind of lousy. The name of the album captures my thoughts perfectly. Beautiful album cover but not much else positive I can say about this one. I was so enthused with this band the first time I heard them. Saw them a couple of times in concert (less than amazing) and now this snooze-fest. Sorry Beirut, but the love affair is officially over.

For doing this with her class... It's cool, but it's been done with cuisenaire rods for years...
