Marcela is such an INTERESTING person. And I mean that in the very best way. She is Mexican but she also has a French connection in her family. She lives in Vancouver... but will soon be moving to Paris (I'll see you there M.P.!). She looks serious much of the time... but she is also very, very funny! Such a unique and wonderful person!
In the three years that I have taught Marcela, the one trait of hers that has been most pronounced is her great generosity. Whether it is volunteering for Green Team, planning one of her friend's birthdays, or bringing me food (she has done it more than once!), Marcela always seems to be thinking of others. We could all learn from her example! Thanks for everything you do, Marcela!
Marcela has well-articulated opinions on a wide-range of topics. I sometimes wish I could see her in an English class or a Social Studies class where there is more opportunity to discuss and debate issues. Marcela expresses herself very well and does not shy away from giving dissenting opinions. And good for her! It's important to say what is on your mind, even if not everyone will agree (I still struggle with this sometimes. Again, I can learn from Marcela.)
Though we do not debate much in my class, Marcela is also a great Math student. She works hard and, when necessary, comes to see me for extra help / to get caught up. I think her math marks have actually gotten better and better every year I have taught her. Very impressive considering the courses are harder and harder (especially Foundations 12. That's a TOUGH class!!). Marcela always seems surprised (and happy) when she gets her tests back. It's very cute. You'd think by now that she'd EXPECT to get good marks but every time she seems genuinely shocked.
Many of my memories about Marcela involve food (birthday cake for K.B., special bread for me, Foods 12 with my daughter, etc) so it is only appropriate that she is planning to become a chef! How exotic: studying the culinary arts in Paris! I am SOOOOO excited for you, Marcela, and can't wait to hear all about your experiences. I know that, with your work ethic and passion, that you will be successful.
I feel so lucky to have taught you and to have gotten to know you, Marcela. You have always been so warm and friendly to me. You are a quiet person but you have a huge presence... a presence that I will truly miss next year. I wish you well and je vais te voir un jour en France. C'est une promesse! À bientôt!
