Lots of great memories and stories involving Kaili. Don't want to write a novel so... on to a list!!
- Kaili was in my Math 8 CORE class in grade 8. So proud of anyone from that class who has ended up taking a grade 12 Math class (there are a few others!). You beat the odds KP!
- I have taught Kaili 4 out of 5 years (I think... my memory is so bad). The fifth year she had Ms Sidhu and (again, I may be wrong about this) I believe Kaili told me once that "Ms Sidhu HATED me". As someone who knows Ms Sidhu well and still sees her often, i find this hilarious. I assure you that Ms Sidhu does not hate ANYONE.
- It took me 4 years to CONFIDENTALLY spell Kaili's name. I can still remember a few occasions when I was writing students' names on the board (as everyone was watching) and suddenly had the realization that "OH NO! I have to write Kaylee. Or is it Kaley? Kayley? Kayleigh? AAAAAAAAAHHHHH!!!!!
- Kaili and I have something in common: we both wake up extra early (some days) to take ferries to school. We both know the "thrill" of waiting in the cold / rain / dark for walk-ons to be allowed on-board.
- Kaili is Simone (my 5-year-olds) favourite student that I teach (sorry everyone else). Last year I told Simone that there was a girl drinking maple syrup right out of the bottle in my class (I did not tell her that it was... ugh... Aunt Jemima syrup). Simone is a BIG fan of maple syrup (especially in her plain yogurt). Then, I told Simone that this same girl comes to school with different coloured hair from time to time. "Like pink and green and blue?" Simone asked. "Yep. And other colours too". A hero was planted in my daughter's imagination that day. When she comes out of the bathroom with orange hair in grade 5 IT'S YOUR FAULT KAILI!!!
- Those Wammits. Or Wabbits. Wambits? Whatever they are called... those things Kaili draws all over the school. Anyone know what the deal is with those?
- As you are likely well aware, sometimes I get a little carried away with the texting. Some nights I'll send 3 or 4 (or 9?) different texts related to homework and tests and collab days and... whatever. I can always count on Kaili to send me a succinct but particularly brutal text to put me in my place. Something like "Really Wadge?" or "For Goodness Sakes Wadge" or "Nothing better to do Wadge?". It's pretty harsh.
- Remember when we all went bowling in grade 10 and, in preparation, we watched the Pete Webber video? I still remember the joy it brought us all... but particularly Kaili. I seem to remember we did a complete analysis of the video including The Glasses, The Glove, The Wife, The Eagle Trophy. WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE... I AM!!!!!!
10. Kaili has a fabulous sense of humour. I have enjoyed many, MANY laughs with her over the year. And there is not much I enjoy more than laughing.
Thanks, Kaili, for being such a strong, intriguing, opinionated, iconoclastic, confident, thoughtful, kind presence in my class. I have nothing but admiration for you and I am excited to see where you end up in the years ahead. I know you are an Arts Fiend and I thank you a million times over for taking Math all the way to grade 12 anyway. Good luck to you Kaili. Love you!!
