This week's Student of the Week is Temuulen T.
Why are so many wonderful students leaving this summer!?!
I only taught Temuulen one time - this year in PreCalc 10 (to be honest, I don't even know how many years she has been at KG). But she made a big impression on me in that short time. I believe she started the year a little slow. I may have (how shocking!) even had to talk to her one class about giving her best effort during classtime. My little (and it WAS little) chat must have worked because, for the rest of the year, Temuulen was a fantastic math student! Because of her slow start, I remember being shocked a few weeks later that "WOW! This Temuulen is really, REALLY good at math!". But, like is ALWAYS the case, a large part of Temmulen's success in math comes from her organization skills, her great work ethic and the fact that she stays up-to-date with her work.
Temuulen is a dancer and I was often treated to her various dance "poses" in the hallway outside my desk. I'd look up from my desk to see her (and often Xavia M as well) in some dramatic stance; perhaps hands on hips or finger-pointing at me, or some variation of the "peace" sign (see photo above). Sometimes I wondered how long Temuulen waited patiently at my door in such a pose until I looked her way. And, ultimately, I felt obliged to return a similar dramatic "move" (and, no doubt, make a complete fool of myself).
Temuulen has a great sense of humour. There's no doubt it can be a little bizarre but that's definitely okay by me. We shared some pretty good laughs over... well, I can't actually remember what. But usually it involved one of us making a completely ridiculous statement and the other getting right on board and acting like it made perfect sense. I know this led to some mass confusion with anyone close by who happened to be listening in. But it always cracked me up. Funny kid, that Temuulen.
Temuulen is leaving us to return to Mongolia (how cool is that?). And after that, who knows? But she will not be forgotten by me for three main reasons:
- she's a wonderful, personable, hilarious, intelligent, friendly student
- those glasses. LOVE those glasses
- TEMUULEN'S SQUARE BRACKETS!!! [[[[[[[[[[ ]]]]]]]]]
Thank you, Temuulen, for all the laughs you have provided me with this year. I am really disappointed that you are leaving KG but I KNOW that you will be successful wherever you end up. With your natural smarts, your good work ethic, and your awesome personality, you can't help but "make it" at whatever you set your mind to. I wish you all the best and I hope that our paths will cross again one day. Maybe you could flat-out SHOCK me with one of those unannounced dance poses in a couple of years. Now THAT would be amazing!!! Bye! <3
