Pedram is a charismatic, gentle guy. He's had his ups and downs during his time at King George (hey! Who hasn't?) but I can honestly say I am sad to see him go and will remember him with much affection.
Here are four of my favourite Pedram memories:
- Talent Show 2015. Pedram is performing! As many of you probably already know, Pedram is a skilled guitar player. So he's up in front of us all (I'm judging), playing and singing. Brian N is holding a phone (I believe it was Pedram's) up, which had the lyrics to the song on it. Suddenly, there is a series of electronic beeps and vibrations, followed by a look of panic over Pedram's face. Then Brian is madly jabbing at the phone. What the heck is going on?
Turns out, someone was phoning (or texting?) Pedram while he was performing. Bye-bye lyrics! And Brian did not remember the password to fix the problem. It was all pretty funny but Pedram dealt with it like a real pro: stopped performing, grabbed the phone, couple quick finger taps... the show is back on! It was pretty funny and very memorable. - This is a hard story to tell because I can't provide all the details. But at the start of this year, Pedram met with me to discuss a somewhat serious issue that had taken place in LAST year's class (as I said, no details). So we are discussing what we can do to make sure we do not have similar problems this year.
Me (concerned): And so you are confident that this will not be an issue this year, Pedram?
Pedram (very heartfelt): Oh, for sure. I really learned a lot from last year. I know I need to do better this year. It's my grade 12 year after all. And I know I will. Also, I'm going to make sure that.... HEY! I have the same shirt as you. I bought it at Winners!!
Me: Uh...okay...I actually bought mine there too. But maybe now's not the time?
Pedram: Oh yeah. Right. So I'm going to make sure that... etc
Hahahahaha! This cracks me up now (not so much at the time). Hehehehe! - Earlier this year, on a Friday and I was bussing home (yuck!!). I almost always bike, but (for some reason) not today. So I head out the front door and there is Pedram, waiting in a very nice automobile.
Pedram: Mr. Wadge. Where are you going?
Me: Home. Are you waiting to drive me? Hahahaha.
Pedram: FOR SURE!!! YES!!
Me: No! No! No! I'm just going to grab the bus.
Pedram: NO! Please, Mr. Wadge. Let me drive you home. I'm not doing anything anyway.
(just randomly hanging out in front of KG in a fancy car??!!)
It took several more minutes of convincing, but finally Pedram convinced me and I hopped in... just as Mr. Lo walked out. I think he was honestly scared for my well-being. "You're going to get PEDRAM to drive you home??!!"
Well, I'm a trusting guy and Pedram was very kind to drive me home (and there was only one time where I felt in any REAL danger hahaha). He kept telling me: "no problem. I'm on my way to a party anyway". It wasn't until we were close to my place (in North Burnaby) that he admitted that the party was in DUNBAR!! Complete opposite direction! What a guy! - Me saying goodbye to my (AWESOME!) Foundations 12 class this week. I (predictably) started to blubber a bit and... just as it may have been getting awkward... Pedram steps forward with his arms opened wide. Hug initiated!! And better yet, this led to a receiving line of hugs from (almost) the entire class. It was sooooo sweet. One of the highlights of my year!!
