This week's Student of the Week is Luisa G! (a photo would be appreciated!)
I never met Luisa until this year (was she even at King George before this year?). I still remember the first class of this year. We did that card puzzle - the one where you have to figure out the order of cards so that you can turn over Ace - one card to the bottom - Two - one card to the bottom - Three - one card to the bottom - etc. Anyway, Luisa seemed completely miserable. I tried to help her out a little but she didn't seem to receptive. She looked overwhelmed and sad. I was a little worried...
But then, the next class (or, at least, very soon) the wonderful Fernanda R joined our class and sat beside Luisa. And what an effect she had. Suddenly, Luisa seemed happy and comfortable and engaged. In other words, the REAL Luisa showed up. And the real Luisa is a wonderful person!!
Above all else, Luisa is a FUN individual. She loves to laugh. She has a great sense of humour. She is authentic and REAL. She is warm and kind and unassuming. Such a lovely person... and also a great student (hard working, honest, determined, etc).
One of the worst events of this school year: me realizing (sometime in mid-December) that Luisa is NOT a grade 11 student. She is in grade 12!!! This is her last year at KG!!! This will be her ONLY year in my class!!! NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!
Luisa has been INCREDIBLY generous with her time this year when it comes to scorekeeping. In her words: "I love the SHEET!!". She has spent hours and hours doing the scoresheet for both volleyball and basketball games at our school. Thanks so much, Luisa! I appreciate it a ton!
Luisa, I always love spending time with you. Whether we are talking about Math or other stuff (your boyfriend Daniel, South American capital cities, Spanish translations, etc) you always make me laugh and you always brighten my day. I really wish you were not in grade 12 though!! I'll miss you next year, though hopefully we can stay in touch.
I am your teacher. Obey me.
