Youra has always been pretty quiet in my class but I have come to know her quite well over my years of teaching her. In grade 10 Youra had a challenging year and - as a result - it was hard for her to keep up with her math. She was so frustrated and so sad... it made ME sad just to see her. I was hopeful that she would still be in my class in Pre-Calculus 11 and - YAHOO! - sure enough, she ended up in that class.
Youra has worked so very hard over the past two years and has gotten very good marks in Pre-Calculus 11 and 12. I am so proud of her. And I always love it when Youra comes for extra help or to re-write a quiz. It's one of the only times I get to hear from her (she doesn't talk much in class). She is very sweet and polite and has a great sense of humour.
As an example of her sense of humour, it was Youra who shocked / delighted me by making the poster of me - arms held aloft, Jesus-style - offering Math help to my "followers". It is hilarious and the fact that it is from Youra makes it even better.
Thank-you Youra for being in my class. I know that Math has been especially hard sometimes due to learning English but you have done a wonderful job. I will always remember your adorable smile and I hope that you will be using it lots as you move to life after high school. Good luck!
