You know how first impressions really make a difference? And how, every once in a while, someone makes such a great first impression that you KNOW you are going to love them after about 10 seconds of knowing them? Well, Maggie was such a person for me.
I know she started at KG late this year, and I believe she even arrived late for her first Calculus class with me. But when she entered the class, I could tell right away that she was very poised, totally genuine, and a truly kind person. Eight months later I feel exactly the same way about her!
Maggie is an interesting and well-rounded person. She has lots of worldly experience. She has lived in China, New Jersey, and Vancouver. She has attended private schools, international schools, and public schools. And she's really, really old for a grade 12 student (hahaha! Sorry Maggie, but it's rare to be teaching someone that I could legally go for a drink with!).
One funny memory I have about Maggie is when she came to me one day to inform me that her Calculus book (which I had just purchased online) had sections missing (and some repeated multiple times!). I contacted the seller and he responded that "we had checked that book over. It seems obvious that it must have been your student who tampered with the book". I knew that this was NOT the case but I told Maggie about it anyway. She was so offended. It was actually pretty funny / cute. "As if I would have any reason for cutting apart and re-gluing a Calculus book" she fumed! Hehehe
I have not known you long, Maggie, but I have come to look forward to any conversations we have together. You are such a mature (must be your advanced age hahaha), thoughtful, and funny person. I admire you for your determination, your quick smile, and your big ambitions for yourself. And I know that you have what it takes to make them all come true! Good luck to you, Maggie!
