Mr. O'Gorman shared this with us last night. He designed and created it. Very creative. Allow me to explain:
See the guy on the far right? That's Usain Bolt (notice the Jamaican colours). As you likely know, he was the winner of the 2012 London Olympic 100 metres sprint (in a time of 9.63 seconds). Mr. O'Gorman had the very cool idea of asking: "where would every other competitor in the London Games 100m sprint have been after 9.63 seconds". Obviously they'd all be behind Mr. Bolt, but how far? Enter Math!! The guy in second place (same Jamaican colours) is Yohan Blake. He finished in 9.75 seconds. So after 9.63 seconds he'd be VERY close to the finish. I calculate that he'd be at 98.8 metres (sure hope that Mr. O'Gorman got the same answer). The guy in third place is Justin Gatlin (USA). His 9.79 second finishing time converts to 98.4 metres. And so on... Pretty awesome, eh? Mr. O'Gorman is pretty proud of this (who wouldn't be). If it intrigues / impresses / inspires you in any way I encourage you to let Mr. O'Gorman know when you see him next. I KNOW that he would really appreciate it. Here's Simone and I sitting cross-legged in the middle of the sidewalk at 5:45 in the morning (!!!!) eating her favourite "pouch" Note the fatigue all over my face. The sunrise! The sunrise!! Simone can't figure out what is happening. She points and waves. (Other inanimate objects waved to on this walk: the moon, a blackberry bush, the sandbox, the button you push to activate the "walk" at a crosswalk") The slide is wet and Simone is NOT pleased. Thankfully, I find some discarded clothing at the park and dry it off (somewhat). Sliding commences. Digging in the sandbox. Wet sand!!! Ugh!! There is quite possibly NOTHING I despise more. This shot taken second before she trips over a toy tractor, thus causing a meltdown. Happily, she recovers and the walk continues, Snail in tow. More sadness: her favourite dogs are not outside today. She stands and stares sadly. Looks like it's going to be a long day Little Sim!! Mr Karmali had a bunch of KG teachers over for tennis and a BBQ (needless to say, he was ten times better at tennis than the rest of us... combined). I drove up and saw THIS sitting in Mr. Karmali's driveway: Turns out that this is Ms. Hughes's new car!! That's it - there's no denying it! - Ms H is officially KG's "swaggiest" teacher!! She was kind enough to let me take it for a test drive. It was... shall we say... lovely.
And then there was this... |
