This week's student of the week is Melanie Z (she's the one on the right in the photo).
I have taught Melanie since grade 9. Plus, she is friends with my daughter. PLUS (!), she worked for my wife (as a work experience student) for over 6 months. This girl's practically one of the family! Melanie is a natural leader. I've had the opportunity to witness her speaking to entire classes, both in a teaching role and as an organizer (S-TRIP!!!), and she is pretty darn awesome. Clear, concise, caring, to the point. Melanie makes things happen! She is the sort of person that others feel comfortable putting their trust into. Melanie works hard (very hard) and uses her resources well. She has asked me for help (on weekends and evenings) via email many times. That's not bothersome... that's just SMART! One of the things I love most about Melanie is just how appreciative she always is. "Acknowledgement" is a skill that she has mastered. She always thanks me profusely when I help her out and she does it in a way that I know she means what she says. Thanks Melanie - I am always eager to help someone so determined, so motivated, and so thankful. I have absolutely LOVED teaching you over the past four years MZ! I know you have big dreams for yourself and I know you will work hard to make them come true. You are an amazing student and a very special person. I'm having so much fun being a new dad (again). I actually caught Simone as she was born (in our bathtub) - what an incredible experience! Something I will never, ever forget!
My wife was INCREDIBLE! Moms are awesome! She's feeling good and resting up. As for Simone... she's unbelievable!! Sooo cute!! (yes, I am completely biased). And she is sleeping so much! Last night we only had to wake up once! Such a good girl! I hope everything is going OK at school. I know you have a good TOC. Work hard and BEHAVE yourselves! Remember: feel free to email me with any math questions (or Simone questions!) that you may have. Simone is sleeping so much that I actually have lots of time to do other things. Only two more weeks (for you) until Christmas break. Mine has already started and - let me assure you - it is awesome! Bye for now. Miss you... ...because December 5, 2013 is a pretty cool (mathematical day).
Why? Hint #1: December 5, 2013 = 05/12/13 Hint #2: my grade 8's are learning about this stuff right now! Hint #3: http://www.wolframalpha.com/input/?i=5%2C+12%2C+13 BONUS MARK OPPORTUNITY: when is the NEXT date like this one? |
