- Q. "Will Will Smith smith?"
A. "Will Smith will smith." - James, while John had had "had", had had "had had". "Had had" had had a better effect on the teacher.
- A guy was painting a sign on a pub called "The Rose and Crown." The landlord came out as he was doing it and said "You've left too much space between "Rose" and "and" and "and" and "Crown".
- Wouldn't the sentence 'I want to put a hyphen between the words Fish and And and And and Chips in my Fish-And-Chips sign' have been clearer if quotation marks had been placed before Fish, and between Fish and and, and and and And, and And and and, and and and And, and And and and, and and and Chips, as well as after Chips?

This week's Student of the Week is Mina N! And what a CS student Mina was. The thing I loved about Mina is that I hardly had to give her any instructions. I'd start explaining what I wanted done and she'd stop me: "I get it". And she always did! And man does she get things done FAST! Ever seen that girl type? Crazy!! Anyway, she demonstrated great intuitiveness, ability to follow directions, and accuracy. I'd hire you in a second if I owned my own business, Mina (and I'd pay you well too!).! Mina has always demonstrated great determination in Math class. I love how she always strives to do her best, whether she is understanding everything or if she is struggling with the material. She is the sort of student who is a pleasure to work with. I have always found Mina a very easy person to talk to. She is confident, she expresses herself well, and she is a great listener. This is an awesome trait! So many people feign listening while they wait for their opportunity to speak. Mina isn't like that. When I speak with her I always get the impression that she is truly focused on what I am saying. I admire the sort of person you are Mina. Thank you so much for always being such a sweet and personable student. You make my job very easy! This week's student of the week is Molly B (she's the one without the cool hat).
I have only known Molly for three years (and only taught her - gasp! - twice). But it didn't take me longer than a couple of weeks to realize that Molly is a very special student. She lives up to (my) stereotype of most Americans as being very outgoing and friendly people (if you want, I can discuss with you my theory that - though Canadians may be polite - Americans tend to be more friendly than us). It is always impressive when a brand new student to KG (or any other school) finds friends, gets involved, and appears comfortable in a short period of time. This was definitely the case with Molly. She is obviously a girl with great self-confidence, charisma, and charm. Of course, Molly continues to demonstrate such attributes during her time on stage. And what a voice this girl has! I think my wife's favourite night out over the past few years was the time we went to see Molly (and other incredibly talented students) at VanCity Idol. Truly inspiring! Here's the sort of quality individual that Molly is... Just today, she agreed to wake up early on a cold and rainy Saturday morning, to meet up with and help me (and my one arm) care for Simone while my wife got her hair done. It was great! I will now be referring to Molly as "The Baby-Whisperer" (Simone slept the whole time). And it was so fun to walk around downtown at 9am ("people are actually awake at this time on a weekend?") and talk to Molly about "non-math" things. Most enjoyable! [incidentally, the photo above is pretty epic. It has Molly (twice!), Simone, me, and my wife (with a pretty bad haircut) in it. Can you spot us all?] Thanks, Molly, for your help today. And thanks for always having been such a friendly, thoughtful, resilient student. I know you will be moving far away next year but you have definitely left your mark on our little school... and all of us in it! Very, very proud of all your accomplishments and I know that there are many more to come in the future... Good luck to you MB! ...because I don't think I can! But it's pretty awesome! |
