From Wikipedia: "Wintergirls is a young adult novel by Laura Halse Anderson. It follows the story of Lia, an eighteen-year-old girl dealing with anorexia nervosa. The novel opens with the news that Lia's best friend of 10 years, Cassie, who was bulimic, has died, and the night she died, she tried to call Lia 33 times. The novel follows the course of Lia's struggles with anorexia, her difficult relationships with her parents and stepmother, and her search to learn about Cassie's fate".
Wow! Sounds pretty intense! So intense, in fact, that Wikipedia warns: "Might be too extreme for kids younger than 13". Yikes!!
I can't say that this is the type of book I'd normally pick up but this was recommended by the amazing (and wonderful) Natasha T. She's quite the avid reader. If she loves this book (and she does) then I am eager to read it.
Why not join us on February 24? If you need the book, see Ms. Birks. She often has extra copies.
