Although I am not teaching Zoe this year, I still had to make her a Student of the Week. I taught her from grade 8 to grade 11 and - unfortunately for me - this year just wasn't to be. I guess Math just wasn't her thing (I can only blame myself) but it sure was sad when she informed me that she was ending her prestigious Math career in grade 11.
I have had so many good laughs thanks to Zoe. I admire her so much for her humorous (and slightly twisted) outlook on life. She's a true independent spirit... doesn't care a bit about what others think about her (a quality I envy). She's kind and personable and interesting and thoughtful. And she's ALWAYS been this way at KG... even in grade 8 (another Math 8 Core superstar!!).
One of the best things about Zoe: she's a fan of music. All types of music! There's no faster way to become one of my favourite people. Over the years we have talked at length about all sorts of bands: The Smiths, Mac DeMarco, Father John Misty, MORRISSEY!!! (even though he is now an insufferable jerk, he made a pretty big impact on me during my own high school years). She has fantastic taste (with a few exceptions hehehe) and I already miss those little chats / arguments (often Chaucer was involved too).
I miss you ALREADY Zoe though I am thankful that I get to see you from time to time. Thanks for being so generous a person. You were always very honest, trusting, and open with me when you were my student. I am so proud of you for the way you have taken on some significant challenges in your life recently; it has honestly been inspiring to watch you maintain your positive (magnetic!) personality in the face of uncertainty and concern. I wish you good luck, great health, and the ultra-happy future you deserve! Love you, ZB!
