Hieu might have only been at our school for (less than!) two years, but what an impression he made on us all... and so quickly. I remember the very first class I had with him. He approached me after the lesson and (somewhat tentatively and very politely) asked: "Sir, will you be teaching this class all year?"
"Why yes" I responded, feeling good about myself. Obviously this youngster had enjoyed his first day in my class.
"Oh, too bad", Hieu continued, "you're a terrible teacher. Okay, bye..."
Hahaha. What a character. If you take Hieu too seriously, he's sure to drive you somewhat crazy. But, if you can learn to appreciate his warped sense of humour, he can really occur as a personable, intriguing, and intelligent person.
Another favourite story is when he interrupted a Science Department meeting (again, very early on during his time at KG) and asked: "Are you the entire Science department at this school?"
"Yes" was the answer (I believe 3 of the 4 teachers had never even seen Hieu before).
"Oh good. Then I can tell all of you at one time how much I hate Science.
Ah Hieu, you are a brave man. Be careful where and how you use that wit. And put that intelligence of yours to good use. I wish you all the best. Thanks for your kind words at the Grad Ceremony. That really meant a lot (and, undoubtedly, concerned a number of other teachers). Keep smiling, Sir!
