Jacob was a City School student. I was lucky that PreCalculus 12 is not offered down "there". As such, I got to teach him this year. Yahoo! Jacob is a really great Math student. I first heard about him several years ago when Jay (one of the City School teachers) told me about "this amazing Math student in City School. I am hoping he can write the Math contests with the rest of the KG students". Jacob did just that (and did well).
One of my favourite memories of Jacob is when he came to show me that he had learned how to juggle (for his Proud Project). He was authentically enthused and eager to show me. We ended up juggling together a bit (pretty bad but it was fun) and had a good laugh.
Of course, Jacob was this year's winner of the John Henderson Memorial Scholarship, awarded to a KG student who demonstrates excellence in both mathematics and athletics. Jacob is an accomplished soccer player (which makes it very appropriate that he won as Mr. Henderson was an avid soccer player and coach).
It was great getting to know you Jacob! I don't know if you knew Mr. Henderson but he would be very happy to know that you won the award named after him. He would value your inquisitive nature, your determination, your thoughtfulness, your time spent volunteering for good causes (and people in need). He would be very proud of you. And so am i! Al the best to you!
