Iris is another City School student who (happy for me) took Pre-Calculus 12 with me this year. Iris is a very deep thinker. It was always great to watch her puzzle over what we were learning, to consider every aspect of it, and (often) to ask an astute clarifying question. Of course, she would do all this in her quiet, unassuming way.
One thing I will never forget about Iris is what an amazing writer she is. As a math teacher, I do not often get to see students' skills in this area. However, for a couple of term projects, Iris chose to write a critique (of a movie and a book, I believe). They were incredibly well written! Creative, insightful and compelling. It made me jealous of English teachers who get to read student essays all the time... but then I remembered they need to MARK student essays. No thanks!
Iris is now off to Montreal and McGill University! Wow! How impressive and exciting is that! Way to go Iris! Our time together was short but I enjoyed teaching you immensely! All the best to you (and bundle up for those Montreal winters. Brrrr!)
