I remember when I first "met" Joey. She took Math 9 with Ms Ford in my room (during my Prep). Often times I would stay in the room during this time to work. I'd notice different things about the students in the class... even if I did not know their names. The two things I noticed most about Joey:
- Her shoes! Joey seemed to come with new, flashy sneakers all the time. I thought (and still think!) she was so cool with her big, gold-trimmed high tops or bright red kicks.
- Joey seemed very clever when it came to math but did not seem like a very hard worker. Sorry, Joey, but my first impression was "this kid is not trying very hard in this class".
I am so proud of Joey for how involved she has gotten at our school. She is an active member of the Green Team (which I think must be a thankless job). She is also the Head of the International Students Club at our school. I know that this takes a lot of time and organization but Joey seems to do it all quite effortlessly and without a complaint.
In fact, Joey ALWAYS seems to be in a good mood! What a wonderful person to be around. Every day I see her (and she often makes a point of popping by my classroom even on days I don't teach her) Joey has a big beautiful smile on her face and is eager to share a laugh with me. I have been so lucky to teach her every year for the last four years!
Joey, I am so glad I got to teach you again this year. It truly is a pleasure to see you and spend time with you. Thanks for all your hard work (except grade 9 hahaha), your desire to do well, and the special, special person you are! I will miss you next year, Joey!
