Last week I had the following conversation with a certain teacher (who will remain unnamed):
Unnamed Teacher (looking aggrieved): I have both of the Currie twins in my grade 12 class.
Me: Yeah? What could be bad about that?
Unnamed Teacher: it's just so hard to tell them apart
Me: What?!?!?!?!??!?!?
I suppose teaching them five years in a row helps but I do not remember EVER having troubles telling these two guys apart... even in grade 8. They are pretty different in my opinion!
Lucas was very quiet in grade 8. Sometimes when he answered questions in class it was actually hard to hear him. Though he's not exactly a loud-mouth in grade 12, he is definitely a lot more verbose (and a lot easier to understand).
One thing that has not changed is Lucas' friendly, gentle, and modest nature. He still does not draw attention to himself, even when he is answering super-tough questions in class or acing (almost) every Math test. Sometimes I wonder if his classmates even know what a high-achieving student that Lucas is.
Lucas has a great sense of humour. He's the sort of person that I often look to when I make a joke. If he isn't smiling, I know my attempt at humour has failed miserably. But, even when it IS a good joke, Lucas does not let out a great belly laugh. Instead, he gets this wry smile on his face and his eyes kind of... well... sparkle. It's pretty darn endearing.
Lucas, you have always been so kind to me. I think you have said "hello" and "goodbye" to me almost every class we have shared (and there have been well over 300 by now!). It may be a small gesture but it means a great deal to a high school teacher (many kids never say ANYTHING unless they are spoken to first). Thanks for being one of the easiest kids I have EVER taught. Never a behaviour problem. Always working hard. Polite and agreeable and fun to be around.
I know that great things await you in the future and I wish you nothing but the best, LC!
