Though I taught Regan all five years (didn't I? Why can I not remember who I DID and who I DID NOT teach in grade 9? Was I only semi-coherent that year?) we have become especially close over the last couple of years. Before that time he was pretty quiet. Great student, nice guy, but not a ton of interaction with me in class.
Since grade 11, however, Regan is much more outspoken, more engaging. I have seen more of his sense of humour (very understated and very funny), more of his natural curiosity (Regan asks lots of questions about all sorts of topics), and more of his natural charisma.
This year, Regan has been one of my two CS students (along with the wonderful Kat G!) during my Athletic Director block... in other words, I do not have a class while they are helping me out. This has afforded us LOTS of time to talk about all sorts of things: basketball (lots and lots of basketball), baseball (Regan is learning slowly), life after high school, KG staff members, food, etc. Talking with Regan (about anything) is great! He is a really good listener. He actually listens! He asks good questions. He is smart and well-informed and well-spoken.
Plus, he has been an amazing CS student. Regan uses Apple products (like myself) but his expertise far exceeds mine. He has shown me some shortcuts and work-arounds that I never would have discovered. So helpful!
It's been a great five years, Regan. I am so proud of you for truly being one of the most dedicated and focused Math students in our school. I know that you will be very successful in the future. You have the intelligence, the work-ethic, the warm personality, and the communication skills to do ANYTHING you want in this world! So choose wisely (and dream big!). I will long remember and treasure the many good chats that we enjoyed together... here's hoping for a few more in the future! Love ya, RL!
