This week's student of the week is Samantha G!
Samantha is another one of my (amazing and much appreciated) C.S. students. In fact, she works in tandem with Nour and - as I think I mentioned before - these two make short work of any task I assign them. I don't know what I am going to do next year when I might have to actually MARK a Workbook from time to time... shudder!. (Which reminds me... now accepting applications for next year's CS students). Thanks for all your hard work Samantha. You made my life much, much easier this year! Of course, Samantha is also a part of another famous tandem at KG. She's the long-time girlfriend of Uluc B! And what a great pair they are! So supportive of each other (with their math, and otherwise) and they always look so happy together (while keeping the PDA's to a minimum. Nice!). Samantha is always so good-natured when other members of the class (including the guy on the right, in the picture above) tease her and Uluc (good-naturedly, of course!) about their romantic partnership. Sorry Samantha! Samantha is one of the sweetest, kindest, most soft-spoken people that you could ever hope to meet. It is for this reason that it is quite hilarious when she tries to insist that she doesn't get along with (or even particularly like) her sister, Amanda. Yeah, right, Samantha! I don't believe it for a second. First of all, Amanda is awesome. And secondly, you don't have a hateful bone in your body. Can't fool me! It was a true delight to teach you for the past few years Samantha. Thanks for always doing your best and for your determined, independent efforts. I wish you all the best next year at SFU! You are going to do great! Proud of you Raveel! * over 190 touches total (but the whole video was too long to post here)
There is (almost) always one question on the Provincial Exam related to Algebra Tiles. I did not have time to teach you this (blame the strike) so here is a video to help you. From an email sent by Ms. Dudra:
"Our school location does make for an interesting picket shift. Only at KG would a teacher need to give chase and try to plead with a thief to return a picket sign. (Thank you Matt for your valiant effort.)" Mr. Sinclair = SuperStriker!! Though, personally, I'm still scared of bats and crocodiles... and drinking from public water fountains.
This week's Student of the Week is Youra S (she's the cute one in the photo above).
Youra has always been pretty quiet in my class but I have come to know her quite well over my years of teaching her. In grade 10 Youra had a challenging year and - as a result - it was hard for her to keep up with her math. She was so frustrated and so sad... it made ME sad just to see her. I was hopeful that she would still be in my class in Pre-Calculus 11 and - YAHOO! - sure enough, she ended up in that class. Youra has worked so very hard over the past two years and has gotten very good marks in Pre-Calculus 11 and 12. I am so proud of her. And I always love it when Youra comes for extra help or to re-write a quiz. It's one of the only times I get to hear from her (she doesn't talk much in class). She is very sweet and polite and has a great sense of humour. As an example of her sense of humour, it was Youra who shocked / delighted me by making the poster of me - arms held aloft, Jesus-style - offering Math help to my "followers". It is hilarious and the fact that it is from Youra makes it even better. Thank-you Youra for being in my class. I know that Math has been especially hard sometimes due to learning English but you have done a wonderful job. I will always remember your adorable smile and I hope that you will be using it lots as you move to life after high school. Good luck! |
